Indoor walkway

Mandalay Bay and Luxor are next-door neighbors at the south end of the Strip, and getting between them is easy. You have two options: walk through the indoor connector or take the free tram. Both work well, and you'll never need to go outside.

This is one of the simplest connections on the Strip—no pedestrian bridges, no street crossings, no construction zones. Pick whichever option sounds better and you'll be there in five minutes.

Option 1: The Indoor Walkway (Recommended)

Mandalay Bay and Luxor are connected by an enclosed, air-conditioned walkway. This is the fastest and most reliable option for most people.

How to find it:

  1. From the Mandalay Bay casino floor, head toward the north end of the property (toward Luxor, away from the convention center).
  2. Follow signs for "Luxor" or "Shoppes at Mandalay Place."
  3. The walkway passes through Mandalay Place, a shopping corridor with restaurants and stores.
  4. Continue through the corridor and you'll enter Luxor near the casino floor.

Total time: About 5 minutes. The walk is flat, air-conditioned, and lined with shops and restaurants if you want to stop along the way.

The walkway is open 24 hours, so it works even when the tram isn't running.

Option 2: The Free Tram

A free tram connects Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and Excalibur. It's a quick ride, but by the time you walk to the station and wait for the next tram, the indoor walkway is often faster.

Tram details:

  • Cost: Free
  • Hours: Daily, approximately 10am-midnight (hours vary slightly)
  • Frequency: Every 5-7 minutes
  • Ride time: About 3 minutes from Mandalay Bay to Luxor

Finding the Mandalay Bay tram station:

The tram station is inside Mandalay Bay, near the convention center area. From the casino floor, follow signs for "Tram" or "Luxor/Excalibur Tram." The station is elevated, so you'll take an escalator or elevator up to the platform.

Finding the Luxor tram station:

The Luxor station is outside, near the hotel's main entrance by the sphinx. When you exit the tram, you'll need to walk into the casino from the front entrance area.

Note on direction: When traveling from Mandalay Bay northbound, the tram stops at Luxor. When traveling southbound from Excalibur to Mandalay Bay, the tram runs express and skips Luxor. So the tram works great going north from Mandalay Bay, but if you're starting at Excalibur and trying to reach Luxor, you'd need to take the tram to Mandalay Bay and come back—at which point the walkway is a better choice.

From the Luxor Side: Going to Mandalay Bay

Most of this guide describes the northbound trip. The reverse direction — Luxor to Mandalay Bay — uses the same indoor walkway and takes the same 5 to 7 minutes, but the tram option works differently because of how the Mandalay Bay Tram tracks are arranged.

Quick answer for the reverse direction: Use the indoor walkway through Mandalay Place. The tram does not run a direct Luxor-to-Mandalay-Bay route.

Why the tram doesn't go Luxor to Mandalay Bay directly

The Mandalay Bay Tram has two tracks operating in opposite directions. The northbound track runs Mandalay Bay → Luxor → Excalibur and stops at all three stations. The southbound track runs Excalibur → Mandalay Bay as an express and skips the Luxor station entirely. The Luxor platform only serves northbound trams.

If you insist on using the tram from Luxor to Mandalay Bay, the only path is to ride northbound to Excalibur, cross the platform to the southbound side, and then ride the express south back to Mandalay Bay (skipping Luxor on the way back, since you're already on the southbound train). Total time is roughly 8 to 12 minutes with platform crossings and waits. The indoor walkway is shorter, simpler, and air-conditioned the entire way.

Luxor to Mandalay Bay walkway directions

From wherever you start inside Luxor, head to the south end of the casino floor (toward Mandalay Bay, away from Excalibur). Signs point to "Mandalay Bay" or "Shoppes at Mandalay Place." Walk through the Mandalay Place shopping corridor — the same one you would use coming the other direction — and you'll enter Mandalay Bay on the Casino Level. Total walk: about 5 to 7 minutes, flat, indoors, and lined with restaurants if you want to stop along the way.

Starting points inside Luxor:

  • From the Pyramid casino floor: Walk to the south end of the gaming area and follow Mandalay Place signs. Roughly 5 minutes to Mandalay Bay.
  • From the East or West Tower: Ride the elevator down to the casino level, walk through the pyramid base toward the south end, and continue through Mandalay Place. Add 2 to 4 minutes for the tower walk.
  • From a pyramid hotel room: The inclinator elevators climb the pyramid corners at a 39-degree angle. Ride down to the casino level, then follow the route above.

When the walkway beats the tram for this direction, every time: The walkway is open 24 hours, runs in a straight line, costs nothing in waiting time, and passes shops and restaurants. The tram detour through Excalibur is only worth it if you happen to need to stop at Excalibur on the way anyway.

Which Option Is Better?

For Mandalay Bay to Luxor specifically, the indoor walkway is usually the better choice. Here's why:

  • The walkway takes about the same total time as the tram once you factor in walking to the station and waiting.
  • The walkway is open 24 hours; the tram stops running around midnight.
  • The walkway passes through shops and restaurants (Mandalay Place), so you can combine the trip with a quick stop.
  • No waiting for the next tram.

The tram makes more sense if you are continuing to Excalibur. Ride the full route instead of walking through two connectors.

Two casinos. Two options. Zero outdoor walking.

Continuing to Excalibur

If your destination is Excalibur (or MGM Grand / New York-New York beyond that), you can either:

  • Take the tram the full route. Mandalay Bay to Excalibur takes about 7 minutes, with a stop at Luxor. The tram drops you at the north end of Excalibur, right at the Tropicana/Las Vegas Blvd intersection with pedestrian bridge access to MGM Grand and New York-New York.
  • Walk through both connectors. Mandalay Bay → Luxor → Excalibur, all indoors. The Luxor-to-Excalibur walkway is fully enclosed and ramp-accessible; the moving sidewalks that used to run its length were removed by MGM Resorts. Total walk time is about 10-12 minutes.

What About the Pyramid?

Yes, Luxor is the pyramid. The indoor walkway from Mandalay Bay enters Luxor at the base of the pyramid structure. Once inside, you'll be on or near the casino floor. Luxor's layout is unusual—the hotel rooms are in the pyramid's slanted walls and in two adjacent towers (the Luxor Towers). If you're meeting someone at Luxor, confirm whether they mean the pyramid or the towers.
