Best Route

Indoor walkway

Mandalay Bay and Luxor are next-door neighbors at the south end of the Strip, and getting between them is easy. You have two options: walk through the indoor connector or take the free tram. Both work well, and you'll never need to go outside.

This is one of the simplest connections on the Strip—no pedestrian bridges, no street crossings, no construction zones. Pick whichever option sounds better and you'll be there in five minutes.

Option 1: The Indoor Walkway (Recommended)

Mandalay Bay and Luxor are connected by an enclosed, air-conditioned walkway. This is the fastest and most reliable option for most people.

How to find it:

  1. From the Mandalay Bay casino floor, head toward the north end of the property (toward Luxor, away from the convention center).
  2. Follow signs for "Luxor" or "Shoppes at Mandalay Place."
  3. The walkway passes through Mandalay Place, a shopping corridor with restaurants and stores.
  4. Continue through the corridor and you'll enter Luxor near the casino floor.

Total time: About 5 minutes. The walk is flat, air-conditioned, and lined with shops and restaurants if you want to stop along the way.

The walkway is open 24 hours, so it works even when the tram isn't running.

Option 2: The Free Tram

A free tram connects Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and Excalibur. It's a quick ride, but by the time you walk to the station and wait for the next tram, the indoor walkway is often faster.

Tram details:

  • Cost: Free
  • Hours: Daily, approximately 10am-midnight (hours vary slightly)
  • Frequency: Every 5-7 minutes
  • Ride time: About 3 minutes from Mandalay Bay to Luxor

Finding the Mandalay Bay tram station:

The tram station is inside Mandalay Bay, near the convention center area. From the casino floor, follow signs for "Tram" or "Luxor/Excalibur Tram." The station is elevated, so you'll take an escalator or elevator up to the platform.

Finding the Luxor tram station:

The Luxor station is outside, near the hotel's main entrance by the sphinx. When you exit the tram, you'll need to walk into the casino from the front entrance area.

Note on direction: When traveling from Mandalay Bay northbound, the tram stops at Luxor. When traveling southbound from Excalibur to Mandalay Bay, the tram runs express and skips Luxor. So the tram works great going north from Mandalay Bay, but if you're starting at Excalibur and trying to reach Luxor, you'd need to take the tram to Mandalay Bay and come back—at which point the walkway is a better choice.

Which Option Is Better?

For Mandalay Bay to Luxor specifically, the indoor walkway is usually the better choice. Here's why:

  • The walkway takes about the same total time as the tram once you factor in walking to the station and waiting.
  • The walkway is open 24 hours; the tram stops running around midnight.
  • The walkway passes through shops and restaurants (Mandalay Place), so you can combine the trip with a quick stop.
  • No waiting for the next tram.

The tram makes more sense if you're continuing to Excalibur—ride the full route instead of walking through two connectors.

Continuing to Excalibur

If your destination is Excalibur (or MGM Grand / New York-New York beyond that), you can either:

  • Take the tram the full route. Mandalay Bay to Excalibur takes about 7 minutes, with a stop at Luxor. The tram drops you at the north end of Excalibur, right at the Tropicana/Las Vegas Blvd intersection with pedestrian bridge access to MGM Grand and New York-New York.
  • Walk through both connectors. Mandalay Bay → Luxor → Excalibur, all indoors. The Luxor-to-Excalibur walkway has moving sidewalks. Total walk time is about 10-12 minutes.

What About the Pyramid?

Yes, Luxor is the pyramid. The indoor walkway from Mandalay Bay enters Luxor at the base of the pyramid structure. Once inside, you'll be on or near the casino floor. Luxor's layout is unusual—the hotel rooms are in the pyramid's slanted walls and in two adjacent towers (the Luxor Towers). If you're meeting someone at Luxor, confirm whether they mean the pyramid or the towers.
