Quick Answer

Distance

~0.25 mile (~400 m) indoor

Walking Time

5–7 min between casino floors

Indoor Connection?

Yes — fully enclosed, climate-controlled

Free Tram?

Yes — one stop, northbound only

Luxor and Excalibur sit next door to each other on the south Strip, and the indoor walkway between them is one of the easiest casino-to-casino connections in Las Vegas. The route is fully enclosed, ramp-accessible, and short — about 5 to 7 minutes door to door.

One thing to know before you start: the moving sidewalks that used to run the length of this connector have been removed. You now walk it on foot. That makes the walkway a minute or two slower than older guides describe, but it's still the fastest way between these two casinos and easier than waiting for the tram.

The Fastest Route (Indoor Walkway)

This is the route most people should take. It keeps you indoors the whole way, skips tram wait time, and drops you near the heart of the Excalibur casino floor.

Starting from Luxor:

  1. From wherever you start inside Luxor, head north. The Strip-facing pyramid entrance is the south end — you're going the opposite direction.
  2. Follow signs for Excalibur or for the tram. Both point to the north end of the property.
  3. The walkway entrance is near Luxor's north valet and rideshare pickup zone, between the East and West Towers. It's the same area where rideshare drivers pick up.
  4. Enter the enclosed walkway. The corridor runs straight north, fully indoor and climate-controlled.
  5. The walkway lets out on Excalibur's Castle Walk level (the second floor), near the food court and the Castle Walk retail shops.
  6. Take the escalator or elevator down one level to reach Excalibur's casino floor.

Total time: 5 to 7 minutes door-to-door at a normal pace. Add 3 to 5 minutes if you're starting from a far Luxor pyramid room.

Where the walkway lets out inside Excalibur

The walkway deposits you on Excalibur's Castle Walk level, the second floor. This is the floor with the 25,000-square-foot food court, Castle Walk shops, and several restaurants. From there, an escalator and an elevator drop you to the casino floor below, where the gaming area, registration, and most bars are located. If you're heading to a show, the Tournament of Kings dinner theater is on the same level as the food court; the Excalibur main entrance and porte cochère are on the Strip side, a short walk through the casino floor away.

Starting points inside Luxor

Where you start inside Luxor changes the total walk by a few minutes:

  • East Tower or West Tower — closest to the walkway. The tower lobbies are at the north end of the property, only a minute or two from the walkway entrance.
  • Luxor Casino Level, north side — from the front desk or the north end of the gaming floor, the walkway is a short walk past the valet area.
  • Pyramid room (south side) — the longest start. Take the “inclinator” angled elevator down from your room, cross the casino floor heading north, and add about 5 minutes to the total. For full property navigation, see our Luxor map and layout guide.

From the Excalibur Side: Going to Luxor

The walkway works the same in either direction. Starting at Excalibur, the trick is finding the south end of the Castle Walk level — the side facing Luxor.

Starting from Excalibur:

  1. From the Excalibur casino floor, head to the south end of the property. Look for the escalator or elevator up to the Castle Walk level.
  2. On Castle Walk, follow signs for Luxor or the tram. The walkway entrance is at the south end of the Castle Walk corridor, past the food court and shops.
  3. Enter the enclosed walkway and continue south. It's a straight shot, fully indoor.
  4. The walkway lets out at Luxor's north entrance, near the East and West Tower lobbies and the rideshare pickup zone.
  5. From there, the Luxor casino floor is directly ahead.

Total time: 5 to 7 minutes from the Excalibur casino floor.

Alternative: The Free Tram

The Mandalay Bay Tram is a free elevated tram that links Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and Excalibur. For the Luxor-to-Excalibur direction, the tram actually works — this is one of the few south-Strip tram trips that does what you'd expect. It's northbound, one stop, no transfer.

The catch: the tram runs on two parallel tracks with different stopping patterns.

  • Western track (local): stops at all four stations — Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, and Excalibur North (the Tropicana & Las Vegas Boulevard intersection station with pedestrian bridges to MGM Grand and New York-New York). This is the track that serves a Luxor-to-Excalibur trip.
  • Eastern track (express): only runs between Mandalay Bay and Excalibur North, skipping both Luxor and the main Excalibur station. If only the express is running — common during off-peak hours — you'll have to wait, or just walk.

Hours run roughly 10 a.m. to midnight daily, with trains arriving every few minutes when both tracks operate. Northbound trips from Luxor to the main Excalibur station take about 3 minutes once you're on the train.

When the tram beats walking: if you're already near the Luxor tram station at the north end of the property and a train is arriving, just take it. Otherwise, the walkway is faster door-to-door because you skip the wait. For the full tram quirk and reverse-direction caveats, see our free trams guide.

Continuing Onward from Excalibur

Once you're at Excalibur, the rest of the south Strip is one short walk or one tram ride away. Worth knowing where the chains go:

  • North to New York-New York: a pedestrian bridge over Las Vegas Boulevard connects the north end of Excalibur to the south end of New York-New York near the Statue of Liberty replica. Total walk from the Excalibur casino floor is about 8 to 10 minutes.
  • North to MGM Grand: via the pedestrian bridges at the Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard intersection. The Excalibur North tram station sits at this corner and the bridges to MGM Grand and New York-New York both land near it. Walk through Excalibur north or take the tram one stop to Excalibur North.
  • South back to Luxor and Mandalay Bay: the same indoor corridor in reverse. Excalibur to Luxor is 5 to 7 minutes on foot; Luxor through to Mandalay Bay via Mandalay Place is another 5 to 7 minutes. Full Excalibur-to-Mandalay-Bay end-to-end is about 12 to 15 minutes, the longest continuous indoor casino corridor on the Strip. See our Mandalay Bay to Luxor guide for the southern half of that route.

A note on the Tropicana intersection: the Tropicana Las Vegas was imploded in October 2024 to clear the site for the Las Vegas Athletics ballpark. Some bridges around that intersection are closed during construction, but the Excalibur-to-New-York-New-York bridge over Las Vegas Boulevard and the Excalibur-to-MGM-Grand bridge over Tropicana Avenue remain open. Confirm current closures on arrival if you're heading to a specific destination.

The walkway is easy. Finding the north exit inside Luxor is the hard part.

When to Skip Walking

For this route, walking is almost always the right call — it's short, indoor, and air-conditioned. Consider the tram or a rideshare only if:

  • You're already standing at the Luxor tram station with a train arriving. A 3-minute ride is fine if there's no wait.
  • You're hauling luggage and starting from a far pyramid room. Rideshare to Excalibur's main porte cochère is sometimes easier than a 10-minute interior walk dragging bags.
  • You need step-free access and the elevators are out. The walkway uses ramps, but the escalator from the Castle Walk level down to the Excalibur casino floor can be a fallback issue if the parallel elevator is down. Bell desk can confirm.
  • You're continuing well past Excalibur (to New York-New York, MGM Grand, or beyond). In that case, the tram up to Excalibur North and out to the pedestrian bridges is faster than walking through Excalibur first.

What You'll Pass

The walk is short, but a few landmarks are useful for orientation:

  • Luxor north entrance and tower lobbies — the East and West Towers cluster here, plus the rideshare zone and the tram station are all on the north side of Luxor.
  • The walkway corridor itself — formerly home to moving sidewalks, now a wide enclosed hallway. MGM Resorts has indicated retail kiosks and drink stations are coming.
  • Excalibur Castle Walk level — the second floor of Excalibur, home to a 25,000-square-foot food court and the Castle Walk shops. Easy to use as a meal stop on the way through.
  • Excalibur casino floor — once you're down the escalator, the casino floor sits in the center of the property between the four towers.

Navigating Inside Each Property

The walk between properties is the easy part. Finding the right exit or entrance inside each casino is where most people lose time. Worth a quick read before you go:

  • How to Navigate Luxor: the pyramid, East and West Towers, the “inclinator” angled elevators, and the difference between the north and south ends of the property
  • How to Navigate Mandalay Bay: the three-tower complex on the other side of Luxor, useful if you're continuing south after this trip
  • How to Navigate New York-New York: the NYC streetscape, the Statue of Liberty exit, and the bridge to Excalibur from the north side

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a walkway from Luxor to Excalibur?

Yes. An enclosed, climate-controlled indoor walkway connects the north end of Luxor to the south end of Excalibur. It runs on the Castle Walk level (the second floor) of Excalibur, and on the Luxor side it begins at the north valet and rideshare entrance. The walk takes about 5 to 7 minutes between casino floors and is entirely indoor and air-conditioned. The route is wheelchair, scooter, and stroller friendly — there are ramps rather than stairs, and elevators are available at both ends if needed.

How long does it take to walk from Luxor to Excalibur?

Door-to-door from the Luxor casino floor to the Excalibur casino floor, plan on 5 to 7 minutes. The walkway itself is short, but the bulk of the time is interior — getting from wherever you are inside Luxor up to the north end, then crossing to Excalibur's south casino floor. Starting from a far Luxor pyramid room can add another 5 minutes; starting from the East or West Tower puts you closer to the connector and trims a minute or two off the trip.

How far is Luxor from Excalibur?

Luxor and Excalibur are immediate neighbors on the south Strip — there is no city block between them. The full indoor walking distance from one casino floor to the other is roughly a quarter mile (about 400 meters) using the dedicated walkway. They are part of a three-property cluster with Mandalay Bay just south of Luxor, and the full Excalibur-Luxor-Mandalay Bay indoor corridor runs roughly 0.8 miles end to end.

Can you walk from Luxor to Excalibur without going outside?

Yes. The Luxor-to-Excalibur walk is entirely indoor and air-conditioned. The walkway is fully enclosed from the north end of Luxor straight into Excalibur's Castle Walk level. You can continue indoors from there: south through Luxor into Mandalay Bay via Mandalay Place forms the longest continuous indoor casino corridor on the Strip at roughly 0.8 miles.

Does the Luxor to Excalibur walkway still have moving sidewalks?

No. The moving sidewalks that once ran along the Luxor-to-Excalibur connector have been removed. MGM Resorts cited maintenance and repair costs as the reason and is using the space for retail kiosks and drink stations. The walkway itself remains open and is still climate-controlled and ramp-accessible, but you now walk the full length on foot. Expect the walk to take a minute or two longer than older guides may say.

How do I walk from Luxor to Excalibur?

From wherever you start inside Luxor, head to the north end of the property — the side that faces Excalibur and the towers, not the pyramid-side Strip entrance. Follow signs for Excalibur or the tram. The walkway begins near Luxor's north valet and rideshare entrance, between the East and West Towers. Take the walkway through to Excalibur, where it lets out on the Castle Walk level near the food court and shops. Take the escalator or elevator down one level to reach Excalibur's casino floor. Total walk is 5 to 7 minutes door-to-door.

Can I take the tram from Luxor to Excalibur?

Yes — and this is one of the few south-Strip tram trips that actually works in your favor. The Mandalay Bay Tram runs northbound from Mandalay Bay to Luxor to Excalibur and stops at all three. So a northbound Luxor-to-Excalibur trip is one stop with no transfer. The southbound side, by contrast, runs express and skips Luxor, which is why the tram is unhelpful for Excalibur-to-Luxor in the reverse direction. The tram operates roughly 10 a.m. to midnight daily, with trains every few minutes. The indoor walkway is usually faster end-to-end because you skip the wait, but the tram is a fine alternative if you are already near the station.

Is the Luxor to Excalibur walk wheelchair accessible?

Yes. The walkway uses ramps rather than stairs on the Luxor side and is wheelchair, scooter, and stroller accessible end to end. Elevators are available to reach the Castle Walk level on the Excalibur side if the escalators down to the casino floor aren't workable. If accessibility is a concern, the bell desk at either property can confirm the current elevator route. The interior portions of both Luxor and Excalibur are accessible throughout.
